Chapter Eleven

They waited by the elevator dressed in advanced biochemical resistant bodysuits.

Unlike standard hazmat suits, these were formfitting with higher levels of resistance.

The uniforms contained multiple anti tear fabric layers.

They wore enhanced HoloWatch like communicators on their wrists.

Their helmets had built in breathing masks to protect them from Remnant.

James, Liam, and Sofia received proprietary weaponry that favored energy and chemicals over projectiles.

Liam took a Sonic Shotgun that would tear a Reaper to pieces at close range with sonic force.

The shotgun was white with a clear panel in the middle which showed the inner black barrel. The end of it was a single enlarged hole.

James received an automatic Shock Rifle. It connected every two sharp rods fired via a wire that conducted an electric current upon the impact of the second rod. Effective for taking on multiple enemies. The top was steel blue. From the trigger down was black.

They gave Sofia an Acid Pistol which shot small green acidic balls using air pressure that dissolved on impacting the target.

The barrel and grip were transparent, while the rest of the firearm comprised a shiny gray polymer.

Isaac refused an upgraded weapon.

They handed Robert a standard silenced handgun, as they did everyone, in case of another electromagnetic pulse.

General Johnson stood before them with Colonel Brian. “You stand before us today as a pair of officers of the law and a trio of courageous citizens. The mission we are about to embark on is dangerous. It’s also an operation that may save millions of people. That’s the only reason we permitted you three civilians to go. We might fail the mission. Last chance to withdraw.”

Nobody budged.

The General looked at them. “Have you all received your Remnant vaccine?”

Everyone nodded.

Liam grabbed his left shoulder. “Did they have to push so deep?”

Isaac glowered at him.

General Johnson scanned everybody. “Okay then. Let’s get moving. Follow me.”

They entered the freight elevator, and the General rested his finger on the black button. A blue light scanned his body from top to bottom.

A few beeps sounded, and a voice spoke. “Identity confirmed.” They seemed to descend for an eternity before the doors opened. A blast of warm air hit them. Two armed guards in biochemical bodysuits watched for threats. In front of them was a platform and a black armored HoverTrain above the track.

‘Looks like it’s built for hauling materials, not people.’ James thought.

He examined the roof of the train station. ‘We are far below street level.’ he thought.

This area looked industrial.

James found no marble or gold anywhere, just concrete.

As they approached the train, James glanced down and saw yellow residue near the tracks. ‘What is that stuff?’ he thought.

He nudged Liam. Liam viewed it too before peering at General Johnson. James looked around the area. ‘Where are the workers?’ he thought.

The General typed his code to enter the train as Sofia and the others observed. It powered on, and the second car’s doors opened. General Johnson and Colonel Brian entered first as the group followed behind them. The Colonel headed to the controls of the HoverTrain and put it in motion.
